Media Suite

Our Media Suite contains innovative technology which engages and inspires our students across the curriculum. We have a green screen studio and a floor projection system, both providing exciting and motivating activities for all ages.

All students have the opportunity to take part in short films which are related to topics they are covering in class. These films are then displayed on monitors in the main corridor and, therefore, shared with the rest of school and visitors. Recent productions have been ‘Othello’, and ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’.

The interactive floor projection system (Visi Surface) provides students with opportunities to control their surroundings. Personalised resources can be created depending on the topic, curriculum matter or interest of the students. Again all students have the opportunity to access this resource. The school has one static machine and 3 mobile ones which are placed in classrooms.

Computing is also taught by class teachers and the ability to access the computer is regarded as a very important aspect of the curriculum. For many of our students access is difficult with conventional equipment, therefore we provide a wide variety of switches, rollerballs. touchscreens, big keyboards and mice to overcome any issues. Students can then strive to produce high quality pieces of work by themselves.

Students in Post 16 have the opportunity to take part in the BBC’s School Report project. They learn journalistic skills and practise interviewing, recording, filming and taking photographs. They also have the opportunity to visit BBC Leeds and practise reading the news and weather in the ‘Look North’ studio.

Alongside the curriculum, those students who require ICT intervention work 1:1 are assessed according to their needs. Equipment is then provided so they have the best opportunity to develop their ICT skills.

As technology advances so do we and currently we have 50 iPads in school. These are used both for ICT lessons, other curriculum work and for communication. Again personalised activities can be created to enable the teacher to differentiate according to the abilities of the students.
