A Walrus is an Inflatable Air Mat which we use in class for positioning, relaxing and engaging individual pupils in effective communication activities.

As soon as we position a pupil on the walrus they show anticipation by being more alert, or moving and kicking responding to a partner by vocalising, giving eye contact and smiling when asked if they want more.

Pupils participate in Intensive interaction taking the lead in conversing with a partner, while on the walruspupil work with an adult independently sharing experiences, developing confidence and social interaction

The walrus is good as it also works on postural adjustments, motor planning and sensory stimulation. We use our imagination on the walrus to create a variety of activities that are therapeutic and enjoyable
