Year 7 catch up – 2018/19 Academic Year
The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in Reading or Maths at the end of key stage 2. As this premium is primarily based on mainstream pupil’s expectations, allocations at Fairfield enable the enhancement of staffing and learning provision to meet the complex needs of students.
In the academic year 2017/1 Fairfield School received £5,500 to support these pupils. In recognition of the more complex needs of our students and the need for more personalised approaches and strategies to support learning. The premium was spent on additional support staffing to allow further and much needed opportunities for:
Individual tuition in the classroom
Intensive small-group tuition
Year 7 catch up allocation
Academic Year 2018/19 – not yet received value unknown
Academic Year 2017/18 – March £5500
Acadenmic Year 2016/17 - March £4500
Students this academic year have been able to benefit from more opportunities to work on a 1:1 basis when appropriate and work in a more intensive group situation to improve and develop their personal skills. Monitoring of the effectiveness of teaching and learning have identified the strengths of support staff in attending to and supporting pupils and that levels of staffing are adequate throughout the school in meeting the students’ complex range of needs. It is envisaged that current levels of support staffing are maintained with the support of the premium grant to ensure the continuation of allocation.
The graphs below show the progress of our Year 7 pupils in English and Maths following the implementation of the strategies we have employed through the catch up premium funding.
